BACKGROUND: Atopic dermatitis is considered a childhood illness, and the direct indirect health care burden of atopic in adults not fully understood. OBJECTIVE: To measure costs among 2018. METHODS: This retrospective cohort study compared commercial Medicare-insured with 2018 directly matched (1:3) without dermatitis. prevalence was reported. Health utilization, costs, work loss data were between cohorts. analysis repeated for 2016 2017. RESULTS: 31,164 identified to controls. Adults had greater utilization outpatient services, pharmacy short-term disability benefits than Unadjusted annual $4,979 higher ($14,603) controls ($9,624), driven by services pharmacy. Findings supported analyses from 2017 multivariable analyses. One limitation this that patients mild cases may seek medical treatment be underrepresented cohort.
